Russel Durst will be visiting WSU’s English Department on Monday, November 17. Currently Professor and Head of the Department of English & Comparative Literature at the University of Cincinatti, Durst’s extensive published works include the book Collision Course: Conflict, Negotiation, and Learning in College Composition (National Council of Teachers of English, 1999). He will deliver a public talk at 3 PM in the 10th floor conference room entitled “A Saint for Basic Writing: Mina Shaughnessy and College Composition.” The talk comes from Durst’s current book project - Founding Figures in Composition Studies - that examines the role of key individuals whose foundational texts and other contributions helped create the discipline of composition studies in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He will also be meeting with English Department graduate students earlier in the day.
